Television Journalism Practice (6 credits)

A thorough grounding in all aspects of television journalism programme production, relating to both news and current affairs, including:

• Reporting skills
• Studio and location filming
• Self-shooting
• Presentation
• Video editing
• Production
• Using social media
• Mobile journalism, multimedia/online content

Research and Practice (2 credits)

This module offers an introduction to practical research methodologies and their deployment in various different specialist journalism fields. The module addresses the following areas:

• News gathering
• Reporting skills
• Writing for broadcast
• Researching stories and verification

Journalism in Context (2 credits)

You will be introduced to the major theoretical debates in the study of journalism. We will cover: the current issues, questions of sport and entertainment, fashion, music, art & design, the role of audience: as well as regulation and representation. We will also look at journalism as a narrative form. All these will be situated firmly in a current and practical context and you will be encouraged to produce real report on your chosen topics.

Media Law and Ethics (1 credit)

This module involves a series of lectures on history and contemporary developments of national and international media law and ethics.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]

• An awareness of health and safety is desirable, in order to carry out risk assessments on location.

Assessment

Production portfolio comprising the research, planning, shooting and editing of original reports on your selected topics; coursework assessment.
